Arts and culture drive economic impact, improve quality of life, and create vibrant communities; as those who understand their importance will attest. However, these arguments often fall short against the tendency to downplay their significance. Perhaps it’s time to change our approach. 

Instead of merely stating that “arts and culture are important,” we should focus on the broader concept of creativity. Creativity is not something easily defined by one person; it initiates and impacts all facets of life.

At The Center, we see creativity as universally essential. It is the foundation of innovation, a mindset that underpins nearly every major advancement in history.

To convey this crucial message, we embarked on a mission to create a film that would help viewers feel the message versus simply being told the message.

The Center’s award-winning film, What Do You See?, tells the story of Will, a young man torn between his creative passions and outside pressures to choose a more “practical” path. Just as he’s about to give up, a pivotal message reframes his perspective; showing him that creativity has a place in every profession and purpose.

Will’s journey reflects a larger truth: too many people are taught to downplay their creative instincts. This short film invites viewers to reconsider the role of creativity in their own lives and to imagine what’s possible when it’s nurtured, not ignored.
